Paul wrote that "the invisible things of God are clearly seen..." (Rom 1:20).
It's evident that he's not talking about eyesight. Eyesight doesn't help us to see the invisible. He's talking about our spiritual eyes. We all have them! Nihilists have spiritual eyes.
God explained it to Ezekiel and he wrote it down for the rest of us: "Son of man, you live in the midst of the rebellious house, who have eyes to see but do not see, ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious house" (Ezekiel 12:2).
God isn't telling Ezekiel about His people's physical eyes and ears. He gives Ezekiel instructions on how to symbolize for Judah what is about to happen to them. He tells Ezekiel to pack his bags and "go into exile in their sight." He uses the term "in their sight" 6 times in Ezekiel 12:3-6. He tells Ezekiel, "Perhaps they will understand." (they were getting ready to go into captivity).
They didn't understand! They said the vision Ezekiel saw was for many years in the future. It wasn't!
Many times people see and hear what we we want to hear and see. We create our own understanding... we deserve our fate for such open rebellion!
Why are the souls of the lost destroyed in the lake that burns with fire? (the second death, Rev 20) Because if they lived on God would probably relent and restore them. There's no chance for that after the second death. If lost souls live on in torment for eternity, why call being thrown into the lake of fire "the second death?"
