According to Daniel 2:49, "Daniel sat in the gate of the king"

Daniel became chief officer of the palace and the greatest counselor of the king. Daniel was not invited for the dedication as he was not part of the eight main classes as he had a duty to perform at the main gate of the palace.

Eight main classes gathered to dedication:
1. Princes: satraps or privy counselors who had access to the king at all times (Dan. 3:2-3,27; 6:1-7)
2. Governors: lieutenants, viceroys, nobles of the various provinces (Dan. 2:48; 3:2-3,27; 6:7)
3. Captains: pashas; deputy rulers of outlying provinces (Dan. 3:2-3,27; 6:7) or leaders of armies (1Ki. 20:24; Jer. 51:23,28,57; Ezek. 23:6, 12,23)
4. Judges: assistants to the king in making laws (Dan. 3:2)
5. Treasurers: those in charge of the treasure houses (Dan. 3:2-3)
6. Counselors: lawyers; judges (Dan. 3:2-3)
7. Sheriffs: supreme masters; civil magistrates (Dan. 3:2-3)
8. Rulers of provinces: state and civil officers and various wise men (Dan. 3:2-3)

We back up in the book of Daniel to chapter 2. Nebuchadnezzar had had a dream. He asked for an interpretation. Vs. 10 The king is told that no man on earth can say what the meaning of the dream is. No one - no king, Lord, ruler has ever asked such things of a magician, astrologer, or a Chaldean. Only the gods can answer such a question.

The king was angry and sent out a decree to destroy all the wise men in Babylon. Daniel heard of the decree. He requested the King give him time.

Back up to chapter 1:3. Daniel and his friends are especially chosen and taken to Babylon.

Daniel prayed and God answered. Daniel revealed the meaning of the dream to King Nebuchadnezzar.

Daniel and his friends were "promoted". Daniel, chapter 2:49,....Sat in the gate of the king.

He was not with his three friends. But in another place of honor.
