The importance of the empty tomb (John 20 1-8) is that Jesus did what He told the Diciples He was going to do, rise the 3rd day. It also made truth of all He ever said. Christianity is the only religion that has a living God that watches over you. He also received the New Body that He promised all believer in Him, in which He was the first (remember that Jesus was a man and also God).

The Tomb couldn't hold Him for He could walk through solid objects as He did when He appeared to the Diciples in the Upper Room. He was also solid as when Thomas touched His wounds.

Jesus the God/man created all things as stated in the first verses in John chapter 1. All the old and new testaments reflect on Jesus and His forefillment of all the things the Prophets said that the Messiah would have to be in order to be the coming Messiah.

There is no doubt that people were looking for a Lion instead of a Lamb to save them from their enemies, but more importantly He came as the Lamb of God to save them from sin, which guarantees them Eternal Life.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and if you believe in Him and have a personal relationship with Him (know Him through the Bible and you accept Him as your personal Savior). You will have Eternal Life. There is no other religion that you can have a personal relationship with God than Christianity. Learn who Jesus Christ is and you will know who God is.

While I was in college for 2 years at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, I chose to write an English paper giving evidence for the bodily, literal resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. I spent literally hours and hours of research on it, then turned in my paper. It was the longest time before I heard anything; it was a huge school, and my English teacher never returned it to me. I could have kicked myself for not making a copy.

Why did Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John choose to include women as being the 1st witnesses? Because they were intent on recounting the story as truthfully as possible.

Embarrassment is one standard that historians use to gauge the historicity of a recorded event. If an author chooses to include an embarrassing fact that may hurt his/her case, then it is unlikely that he is making up his story. The fact that the Gospel writers included the “embarrassing” details of the women being the witnesses to the empty tomb shows the unlikelihood of the empty tomb narratives being fabricated.

There would be no need to propagate the idea that the disciples stole Jesus’s body from the tomb if the tomb were not empty! | PAUL REZKALLA, PHD

This is a reference to Michael’s 3rd argument, enemy attestation.

Robbers of tombs have been known to take away 'the clothes' and leave the body; but none ever took away 'the body' and left the clothes, especially when they were 'fine linen' and new (Mark 15:46). Any one would rather choose to carry a dead body in its clothes than naked. Or if they that were supposed to have stolen it would have left the grave-clothes behind, yet it cannot be supposed they would find leisure to 'fold up the linen.'" bible.org

The importance of the empty tomb of Christ is that it is proof that His sacrifice was the accepted payment to God for the sins of all the world. If the tomb were not empty, Christ would still be dead and we would therefore still be dead in our sins. But Christ, who knew no sin, was made to be sin for us, so that our sins would remain washed away in the ground forever with His blood.

Our faith in Christ places us protected in Him. Our carnal bodies of the flesh no longer represent where we now stand spiritually in Him, protected in Christ for eternity. Believers died with Christ, were buried with Him, and have already spiritually risen with Him through His resurrection for our justification. It is through His resurrected life that we now have hope also for a new glorified and incorruptible body for an eternal life of joy with Him.

What is the importance of the empty tomb?

The empty tomb is the foundational evidence of Jesus Christ's bodily resurrection, confirming His victory over death and the fulfilment of scripture. It validates the Christian faith, demonstrating that sin is forgiven and offering followers hope for eternal life. It serves as a tangible, historical sign that God is powerful and present.

For me personally, the proof that the tomb was empty also shows that through Christ, all tombs of His followers will be empty one day.

Rev 21:4 ESV: "And he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more: the first things are passed away."

"Death will be no more." This expression can also be rendered "death will no longer exist" or "there will no longer be any death." God promises to eliminate death and the suffering that it causes for His followers. In addition, there will be a resurrection of the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:21, 22) —1 Corinthians 15:26.ESV "The last enemy that shall be abolished is death."

Note the promise in Revelation 20: 13-14 ESV: "And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, even the lake of fire."

The resurrection is seen as the "firstfruits" of a future resurrection for all believers, providing a "living hope" of eternal life beyond physical death.

Certain prophecies about the Messiah were not yet understood, even by Jesus' disciples. This was particularly true of those prophecies concerning the Messiah's rejection, suffering, death, and resurrection.

The empty tomb fulfilled prophecy. Psalm 16:10 ESV: "10 For thou wilt not leave my soul to Sheol; Neither wilt thou suffer thy holy one to see corruption."

Also note what Peter said at Pentecost, Acts 2:29-13 ESV: 29Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried. His tomb is with us unto this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne; 31he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption."

And note verse Acts 2:24 ESV: "24 whom God raised, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it."

Conclusion:

The empty tomb serves as the ultimate, physical evidence that Jesus did not remain dead, as verified by the Roman guards' failure to keep the body secured.

It confirms that Jesus is who He claimed to be (the Son of God) and that His promises are true.

The empty tomb signifies that the penalty for sin has been paid and that death has been defeated, offering a way for humanity to connect with God.

It provides believers with assurance of their own resurrection and ultimate triumph over fear and despair.

Without the resurrection proven by the empty tomb, Christian faith would be considered futile.

This event even transformed fearful disciples into bold witnesses and serves as the cornerstone of the Gospel message.

Its importance is both historical and spiritual, serving as primary evidence that Jesus conquered death and fulfilled his own prophecies.
