1John 4:18,19 - "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us." This is a description of how much the Lord loves each and every one of us. Ephesians 5:24,25; "Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so let wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;..." Notice it does not say wives are to love their husbands. Jesus so loved us he GAVE His very life that we be holy before God. If a husband so loves his wife, she will respond likewise with the love and respect he deserves. It is in the design of the human creation. If the man truly loves his wife, like Christ loved His church, he will never hurt her and only do good for her. What more could any woman want?
Good question, Lisa! What does scripture teach about how a husband should respect his wife? Paul writing to the church at Colossae (Colossians 3:19 ESV --English Standard Version), said: "Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them." https://www.openbible.info/topics/respect_the_wife Husbands, show your wife tenderness, even if she makes a mistake. As much as you love your wife, she may occasionally make an error in judgment, be impatient or unkind toward you, or upset you in some other way. However, Colossians 3:19 says, "Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them." Be slow to anger and show your wife forgiveness and love. This will allow her to grow from her mistakes, rather than being haunted by them.[6] a. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 also describes this kind of love: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." b. You will need to be humble and apologize if you make a mistake in the relationship, as well. https://www.wikihow.com/Love-Your-Wife-According-to-the-Bible In fact, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV / would be good here: "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
