What does the Bible say about prosperity, such as wealth, health, and general blessings?

First, I would say that the Bible makes clear that God is the ultimate source of all good things (both material and immaterial) that humans receive or experience during their lives (James 1:17). The Bible also teaches that humans are universally sinful, and should justly receive only condemnation and separation from a holy God (Romans 6:23). Therefore, any good things that humans (whether they are considered "good" or "bad" people in human terms) possess or can claim are unmerited, and the product of God's grace (undeserved favor). God delights in blessing and prospering His followers (Psalm 35:27). At the same time, such prosperity (in either material or non-material terms) is not promised or guaranteed, nor should it be the motivation for an individual to follow Christ. All the things of this world will pass away. The Christian's focus should be on eternal rewards from God (Matthew 6:19-21).
