This is a very highly debated topic and question in the field of psychology and psychiatry and has been for decades especially with the occurrence of the AIDS and HIV viruses in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

Being a doctor of psychology I have on occasion been asked this very question by deacons and pastors alike and it’s a very difficult subject to answer through scripture.

There are many subtle references to it throughout both the Old and New Testaments but there is, to my knowledge, only one that directly refers to it and what God says about it is fairly cut and dried. “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
Leviticus 20:13 KJV

Let’s look at the structure of this verse as to the way God views it, the word Abomination is used to begin with so let’s start there. Abomination relates very closely to the idea of sin as that which we are commanded to refrain from participating in or encourage to participate in.

There really isn’t enough room to go in-depth but refrain from participating in or encourage to participate in could imply that we have a choice and free will is one of Gods greatest gifts. So from just this one point of view a choice to refrain yourself or others to refrain is a personal choice not a fundamental genetic predisposed condition. In short we are not born to be sexually attracted to our same sex or gender.
