Matthew 19:14: But Jesus said, "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

God the Father’s creation of mankind in this world: one needs to be as a child who stands and walks, having clean thoughts in mind, for the Lord God shall then ordain your strength. (Psa 8:2) One then being ordained with strength, you shall be led in the right spirit, as the little children who were in the temple. There were the blind and the lame who came to the temple, and the Lord Jesus healed them. (Mat 21:14) The children who saw them then began to cry in the temple, saying, "Ho-san’-na to the son of David"; the priest and the scribes then said to our Lord Jesus, “Hearest thou what the children said?” Lord Jesus then said unto them, "Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise!'?" (Mat 21:15-16) The innocent and humble, having true worship, come from a place of sincerity and purity. These are God the Father’s creation who are in the right spirit, who are led and brought to make them joyful in His house of prayer; whatever sacrifices they bring shall be accepted upon the altar. For thus the Lord’s house shall be called a house of prayer for all people. (Isa 56:6-7)

Hannah, the wife of El’-ka-nah, the Lord loved her but had shut her womb for a time; the adversary then provoked her severely to make her troubled, because the Lord had shut up her womb. (1 Sam 1:5) Year by year she went to the house of the Lord; and she wept, having bitterness in her soul, and kept praying to the Lord and wept greatly. (1 Sam 1:7,10) E’-li, the priest of the temple, had seen her praying within her heart, as her lips moved but her voice was not heard, and he thought she was drunk with a strong drink of wine. (1 Sam 1:13) E’-li then being told she had not drunk, then came and said unto her, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel shall grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of Him." It then came to pass she conceived and bore a son and called his name Samuel, because she had asked the Lord for him and “God had heard.” (1 Sam 1:15,17,20) Hannah, after she weaned him, took him to E’-li the priest, and lent Samuel to the Lord, and he worshiped the Lord there; he was then led for the kingdom of heaven. (1Sam 1:24-25,28) 

In those days the word of the Lord was precious, and there was no open vision, and it came to pass at that time, as he was led E’-li, then laid Samuel down in a place, as his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see. (1 Sam 3:1-2) The Lord then called Samuel, and he answered, “Here am I,” and ran to E’-li and said, “Thou called me, and he said I didn't call you.” Samuel did not know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord revealed to him. (1 Sam 3:4-8) E’-li then said unto him, “Go lie down; when you hear the call say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth,” and Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and then stood and called out, “Samuel, Samuel;" he then answered, "Speak, for thy servant heareth.” (1 Sam 3:9-10) The Lord then revealed unto him of the house of E’-li, concerning his house and his sons who made themselves vile, as he restrained them not, and he then revealed unto E’-li. (1 Sam 3:12-13,18) Samuel as a child who then grew, and the Lord was with him, and let none of His words fall to the ground, for such is the kingdom of heaven. (1 Sam 3:19)

Jeremiah 17:10: I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Your question: Why did Jesus say, 'Let the little children come to me'?

Remember, Christ came in the volume of the book. He spoke of the things the Lord revealed through his prophets. 

Hebrews 7:10: “Then said I, 'Lo, I come' (in the volume of the book it is written of me,).”

Jesus said God has perfected praise from “the mouths of children and infants” (Matthew 21:16). This means that even little children can truly praise God. 

Psalms 8:2: “Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength.”

Children don’t see the world as we do. They are not racist; they have no hatred. They are pure in thought. 

As Christ said, you must become as children to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 28:3: “And said, 'Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.'"
