These were the seven Christian congregations in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) to which the apostle John was commanded by the glorified Christ in Revelation 1:11 to send messages regarding God's assessment of their spiritual condition. They were located (in the order listed in Revelation 1:11) in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. (The messages to these churches are contained in Revelation 2 and Revelation 3.)
