NKJV - Exodus 34:13, "But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images.

KJV - same verse as above reads,"But you shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves."

Refer to Deuteronomy 16:21, "Thou shalt not plant a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the Lord thy God, which thou shalt make the e." WHY?

The Groves so often mentioned in the Old Testament were devoted to the worship of the pagan goddesses Ashtereth, the Babylonian goddess Ishtar, the Greek goddess Aphrodite, and the Roman goddess Venus. Ashtereth was also referred to as the "queen of heaven." Jeremiah 7:18.

2Kings 18:4, Hezekiah, who did that which was right in the sight of our Lord, broke the sacred pillars down because the people were starting to burn incense and call it Nehushtan. Alas the bronze serpent of Moses was destroyed because the object was now being venerated. (That is they called the servant Nehushtan.)

The "sacred pillars" were dedicated to the worship of pagan God's,or goddesses.
