Malachi 1:2-3: "I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? Saith the LORD, yet I loved Jacob And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness."

Although it is clear that The Lord prophesies the destruction of Edom in Obadiah and Amos (1: 11-12) it isn't stated when everything will be fully accomplished. This verse in Obadiah, 1:18, has not yet occurred:

"And the house of Jacob shall be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it."

Also, in Daniel, verse 11:41 speaks of Edom, Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon escaping from the hand of the 10-horned beast, as if these nations will be reinstituted in some way as Israel was in 1948.

It is possible that only during the time when Christ comes to judge the nations that the punishment of Edom will be fully accomplished.
