The basic principle of a Christian marriage is the focus on God's law and the commandments. God established marriage as an institution of love, guidance and procreation. When there is love, there will be peace, and hamony between man and woman in marriage, Hebrew 13:4, "let marriage be held in honour and let marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous". And also, since God created humanity as male and female, and that in marraige the two shall become one flesh, (Genesis 2:24), so they are no longer two but one flesh, therefore what God has joined together let no one seperate.
Great question, Johnathan Bryant! Because words are so powerful in their effect on people (Proverbs 18:21), I’d like to say one thing here about good communication between husband and wife: Speak joy and thankfulness! (My wife often says to me, "Don't complain or criticize.") "Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it." James 4:11 "Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door." James 5:9
