Will a person go to hell if he/she is divorced and remarried?

Is divorce a mortal sin that would lead one to lose their salvation?

According to Jesus in Mark 3:28-29, the only sin that cannot be covered by faith in Christ for eternal life is the complete and final rejection of the salvation and forgiveness that God has made possible through Him.

Short of that, any earthly sin can be forgiven by God for Jesus' sake, as long as that sin is recognized and admitted, and forgiveness is sincerely (which God alone can judge) sought for it.

However, one means of demonstrating that sincerity -- when possible, and where it would not require the commission of additional sin (such as -- in the case of the specific question being asked -- breaking up a new marriage to re-marry a divorced ex-spouse) -- would be to do whatever is in one's power to seek the forgiveness and correct the effects of the sinful action involving those specific people whom we may have wronged (as, for example, Zacchaeus did by promising to give half his wealth to the poor, and to re-pay fourfold those from whom he had unjustly taken money in his capacity as a tax collector (Luke 19:1-10)).

Another means of demonstrating that sincerity is to strive (with God's help) to not repeat the same sin (although, with regard to sins that other people may commit against Christians, Jesus told His followers to forgive those people an essentially unlimited number of times, if they sought that forgiveness, since that is the type of forgiveness that God has demonstrated with us (Matthew 18:21-35; Luke 17:3-4)).
