We need to remember there are different dispensations in the bible. God deals with different people differently. We who are in the church age, the age grace for salvation is different than the old testament of faith plus works.

Some writers were writing to both dispensations. Like James. He was writing to the twelve tribes of Israel scattered abroad. Not to the church. But he also has some verses for the church. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know ye have eternal life. That is written to saved believers.

When James says faith without works is dead, he is speaking to the twelve tribes of Israel scattered abroad during the tribulation period. Not the church. We know because Paul preached salvation by grace without works. Romans 11:6 and Matthew 7:21-23 Those that are trusting in their works are not saved because they have not trusted Jesus as their savior. John 6:40 They have not done the will of the Father. Matthew 7:21.

The gospel of John and the Pauline letters are to saved by grace gentile and Jewish believers under grace. Those who have believed the gospel of all grace. Ephesians 2:8-9. Should we do good works? Sure, for profit in heaven. Rewards. Never for salvation.

When we believe the gospel,. that all our sins are paid for by Jesus blood sacrifice for all sin, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. We can never be lost. John 6:37 John 6:39 Jesus has never lost one.

When do we get eternal life? When we believe on Jesus as the only way to be saved by faith alone in Christ alone. Because He paid our sin debt in full we now have no sins to pay for. We are not made Holy in the flesh, but only in the Spirit. We all sin, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23.

But people just will not believe it. So they make up their own way of salvation and do not understand the different dispensation of the bible. There is only one way of salvation by grace, that is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation. He is the narrow way because He is the only way plus nothing. No works. Romans 4:5
