As I understand it, the Daniel mentioned in Nehemiah 10:6 was a Jewish priest at the time of the return to Judah of the remnants of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin from their seventy-year exile in Babylon. He is perhaps the same Daniel who is mentioned in Ezra 8:2. (The books of Ezra and Nehemiah both deal with the return from the Babylonian exile.)

However, he was not the same individual as the prophet Daniel who is discussed in the book of that name. Nor is he to be confused with the son named Daniel who was born to David and his wife Abigail (1 Chronicles 3:1), and who would have lived hundreds of years earlier.
