I would say that Satan did so when Jesus bore the weight and paid the penalty for the accumulated sin of the entire world from eternity past to eternity future through both the physical suffering and death, as well as the spiritual suffering (which involved experiencing a sense of separation from His Father, and which I don't think we are capable of fully comprehending or appreciating), that He endured on humanity's behalf. However, Satan's effort was vanquished in an infinitely greater manner by Jesus' subsequent resurrection from the dead, which (as indicated by the same passage (Genesis 3:15) that spoke of Satan bruising the heel of the woman's seed (Jesus)) bruised the serpent's (Satan's) head (an eternally fatal wound), and assured Satan's ultimate defeat.
