Was reflecting on my prayer life and how far short I come. This drew me to the man who prayed fervently that it might not rain and the statement that the prayer of such availeth much according to James.

When I thought about how l little we know of Elijah’s background I wonder is pride one of the greatest hindrances to answered prayer. We get hung up on our pedigrees, our position, our prosperity and lots of other things so that we are all dripping with pride.

As seen in the entrance of Elijah, the genealogy of a servant is of no consequence. What a treasure we open as we look at the Gospel of the Perfect Servant, the Lord from heaven and Mark who looks at him as the Servant, records no genealogy for Him. How different from Matthew’s account of Him as King where His lineage is all important.

The lesson from the lack of background in the case of Elijah is that the Message is more important than the man!

I suspect we are weak in prayer then because of PRIDE but also due to lack of PERSISTENCE unlike the woman came repeatedly before the unjust judge. Perhaps lack of PATIENCE would also hinder our prayer life.

Trust these musings will be of help. God bless, Ivan Gordon
