Why did Joseph keep Simeon while his brothers go back home?
Genesis 42:18 - 25
ESV - 18 On the third day Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God: 19 If you are honest men, let one of your brothers remain confined where you are in custody, and let the rest go and carry grain for the famine of your households.

Reuben was the oldest brother who saved Joseph’s life from his brothers. Joseph would have heard the arguing. 37:21-22. Rueben had gone off somewhere, we know from .. Gen 37:29
Simeon was the next eldest brother and should have been responsible for what happened to Joseph. He should have stopped the selling of him to the Ishmaelites.

Not sure why Simeon was chosen. Could have been God told him. Or maybe it was just from the experience he had with his brother when he was younger. But my comment was really for one.the other answers that said Simeon and Levi were twins. Genesis 29:31-33 clearly states Simeon was Leah's 2nd aon, Levi was her 3rd.
