Ah, occasionally while driving I used to see the old cliché bumper sticker: “No Jesus, No Peace; Know Jesus, Know peace.” You've seen it too, probably. Doesn't that always make you smile? I like the hymn, by Virgil P. Brock, "Wonderful, Boundless Peace." Taking my burdens and sins away, Bringing a peace that ever stays; Wonderful, boundless peace. Refrain Peace, peace, wonderful peace, Peace, peace never shall cease; Flowing like rivers through my soul, Under divine control. I think this hymn could have been inspired by John 14:27. Jesus said in the NET Bible: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage." The note on part of this verse says, "This should probably be understood ultimately in terms of the indwelling of the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, who has been the topic of the preceding verses. It is his presence, after Jesus has left the disciples and finally returned to the Father, which will remain with them and comfort them." Warren Wiersbe said, "The Spirit uses the Word to give us His peace (John 14:27)." I know the Holy Spirit gives me peace! He bears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God! This comforts me like nothing else could! We must remember that Jesus Himself is our peace (Eph. 2:14-17) and that He made peace by dying on the cross for us (Col. 1:20). The preeminence of Christ is written about in Colossians 1:20-23). Col. 1:20 says, "and through Him [Jesus] to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 says this: " Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you."
