1 Kings 9:1-9 New International Version (NIV)

The passage cited in the question indicates that God appeared to Solomon "as He had at Gibeon", where the Bible says specifically that God had appeared to him in a dream at night (1 Kings 3:1-15). Since the parallel passage (2 Chronicles 7:11-22) to the passage from 1 Kings cited in the question also specifies that God appeared to Solomon "in the night", this account would be consistent with the second appearance being in a dream, as well (although the passage from 2 Chronicles does not specify that the second appearance was in a dream).

However, 2 Chronicles 7:12 uses the same Hebrew wording in speaking of God's second appearance to Solomon as 2 Chronicles 1:7 does in describing God's first appearance to him. Although the wording of 2 Chronicles 1:7 does not indicate that the first appearance was in a dream, 1 Kings 3:1-15 specifically says that it was.

Therefore, based on both of the above considerations, I would conclude that God's second appearance to Solomon was also in a dream, as His first appearance had been.

(I was somehow unable to correct the typographical error in the first sentence of the second paragraph above. "22 Chronicles" should read "2 Chronicles", and "ses" should read "uses".)
