What does the Bible say about approaching a family member (sister, brother) if his/her spouse is being unfaithful?

I can understand how a motivation of loving concern might be ascribed to such an action, but Biblical guidance that I can find would indicate that the person having knowledge of family infidelity of which he or she believes that the cheater's spouse is unaware should not inform the spouse by volunteering the information unsolicited. The informant might very well not have complete or correct knowledge of the situation, nor of what others involved might already know, be aware of, or suspect.

The Biblical passages that I find most directly applicable are Proverbs 26:17, which states, "Whoever meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears." and 1 Peter 4:15, in which Peter said, "If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler."

The bible actually counsels us to confront the person who has committed the sin (been unfaithful) with their offence, see Leviticus 6:1-7. We must do so with love and respect.

A person becomes aware of their sin in one of two ways: Either someone confronts them with their sin and calls them to repentance or the Holy Spirit may convict them of their sin and make them feel guilty or ashamed until they repent.

Part of our mission as Christians is to confront people with their sins, in a loving and respectful way. The apostle Paul had to do this on several occasions to confront sin that had crept into the various churches he had established.

The Jewish law required the testimony of two witnesses before someone could be brought before the court to determine if the person was guilty of breaking the law. In our modern society, a person who has been unfaithful to their spouse is guilty of breaking the marriage laws in our society and this would be grounds for a divorce proceeding. Proving that a person has been unfaithful requires the testimony of witnesses to obtain a judgment.

I don’t believe we should be raising this issue with the person who has been wronged, we would be hurting them deeply with such information and possibly without convincing proof that it was true.

We can trust that the Holy Spirit will give us the right words to say to the unfaithful spouse that will convict them of their sin in a loving and respectful way. We can also pray for the Holy Spirit to convict them of the sin and lead them to confession and repentance without a confrontation.
