The king cut up each page of the scroll as soon as Jeremiah read it to him. Then God made Jeremiah write it all down again. What was the point of this?
Jeremiah 36:1 - 22
ESV - 1 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord : 2 Take a scroll and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah and all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah until today.

As God said to Jeremiah in the passage cited in the question, His repeated calls to repentance were (and still are) signs of His love, mercy, patience, and grace (that is, His unmerited favor toward a humanity that does not deserve such consideration). This is done for the sake of those relative few who will listen (as God indicated in Jeremiah 26:3), as well as to leave the many who will not listen with no excuse to escape the judgment that awaits them (temporally, eternally, or both) for their refusal to repent.
