I would say that the main way in which the response of Christians to conditions such as those cited in the question would impact their children would be demonstrating to their children the sincerity and reality of their faith -- that is, whether their fath in God remains constant under those conditions, and whether their actions reflect that faith. Parents' maintaining their faith (even under conditions of adversity) would make it much more likely that their children would later emulate that same characteristic, rather than regarding their parents as dishonest or hypocritical, and thus being turned away from the faith.
