In my opinion, although the details of Paul's death are not specifically indicated in the Bible, the alleged grounds for his execution (as well as for the martyrdom of many other Christians in the vicinity of Rome during the same general period in the reign of the Roman emperor Nero (who ruled from AD 54 to AD 68)) would have been in connection with the false blaming of the Christians for the great fire that ravaged Rome in AD 64.
