Why would Jesus include in his parable of the rich man and Lazarus about the dogs coming and licking the poor man's wounds?

Luke 16:21 especially

I think it was just Jesus' way of saying 'nothing good was happening in Lazarus' life.' (even the dogs licked his sores). Maybe it means that his sores couldn't heal because of being licked by the dogs.
