NKJV - 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

I think this verse means that Christians are to be especially careful to obey Christ as a show of already having been saved. And this particularly is in the context of being alone--cut off from their spiritual father. Specifically, this could apply today in the midst of the pandemic. Some of us are still fellowshipping online and virtually through the live streaming of the church.
