The Book of Enoch (actually there are 2 books) is part of the Apocrypha. The Apocrypha consists of 14 books in the Septuagint. Eleven of the books are in the Roman Catholic Canon. No books from the Apocrypha are in the protestant Bible or the Hebrew scriptures. These books are unauthenticated Christian writings.

When God stopped speaking through the prophets hope was growing dim. The writings became available. Much of the writings imitate the accepted scriptures.

The canonical books are based on actual experiences.

These books have value in that they help reveal first century Jewish ideas.

I Enoch is an Ethiopic version made into Greek from a Hebrew text. It was written by the Chasidim, or the Pharasees between 163 - 63 B.C.. This is the best source of the development of Jewish literature in the last 2 centuries of pre-Christian literature.

2 Enoch was written in A.D. 1 - 50.
