1 Samuel 24:11 11See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. See that there is nothing in my hand to indicate that I am guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I have not wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take my life. New International Version

I would not characterize David's showing to Saul the piece of Saul's robe that David had cut off as flaunting, but rather as an act of confession and humility (similar to the sentiments that David had already expressed verbally in 1 Samuel 24:6, as well as by bowing down and prostrating himself before Saul) and also as visible proof of David's sincerity. He was trying in any way he could to change Saul's mind and to make Saul cease from pursuing him and trying to kill him, rather than "daring" Saul to keep on chasing him.
Stating that one did good does not indicate flaunting. (It could at times, but I don’t believe it does in this case.) In verse 8, David addresses Saul, “My lord the king!” as he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. This is showing respect and humility. David continues by saying that the Lord put Saul in the position of power and he (David) wants to leave the fate of Saul up the the Lord (v 12). In other words, David is simply saying, “I had a choice.”’ He is not boasting, only clarifying. This is another sign of respect. In this case respect for God.
