Physical death is the separation of your spirit from your mortal body. I had a few near death experiences in my life. Once in my youth I was at my Grandmother's resort, in Northern Wisconsin. I was riding a one-speed bicycle FAST down a steep paved driveway at her place. But at the bottom of this driveway it was sand! I turned the handlebars of the bike, unfortunately, at the bottom of the driveway which I SHOULD NOT have done. I fell immediately and the handlebar of the bike hit me in the solar plexus, knocking all the wind out of me. I could not breathe for the LONGEST TIME! I thought for sure that I would die. Fortunately it was not my time. God had other plans!

Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death (now and then later in hell for eternity) but the gift of God is eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ. This is physical death and eternal death.

Spiritual death is the separation of your soul from God. Paul speaks of this kind of death in Ephesians 2:1, 5.

1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

“Eternal death, or the second death, is the eternal separation of a person from God. There is no escape from the second death. So, there is this third type of death in Scripture that is different from spiritual death and physical death. This is known as eternal death, or the second death. In the Book of Revelation we read.

The one who has an ear, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death (Revelation 2:11).

Unless spiritual death is reversed in this life, the result will be eternal death. This is unending separation between God and all who reject Him." Don Stewart in the Blue Letter Bible
