God has always existed from eternity past. (That is, there was never a time when He did not exist.) He created the universe, and He controls it, but He is not a component of it. Because He is three eternal Persons (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) in one Being, He is sufficient unto Himself, and does not require any other being or condition for His existence.

John 1:1-3 says that it was through God's Word (that is, God the Son) that God created the universe.

The late English theologian C. S. Lewis incuded an excellent discussion of this in his short work Mere Christianity (fully readable at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AHo2geMH6Ci5YWS1Mz-GpMJ422YzbfrSK70uiNHeApk/edit) which I would recommend to anyone seeking a greater understanding in this area.

God was in unapproachable light before the creation of the whole universe. Because God lives in the unapproachable light, unapproachable light exists beyond our universe.

Who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see? To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
~1 Timothy 6:16 (NIV)

No one, including angels and humankind, has seen God nor listened to His voice. Only the Son of God has seen the father and revealed him to us.

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
~John 1:18 (NIV)

And the Father who sent Me has testified concerning Me. you have never heard his voice nor seen his form.
~John 5:37 (TLV)

And one more thing I want to tell you to all bible lovers:

We believe that Father God has created the universe. But it is not the complete truth. Father God created the universe through the Son of God. This is a complete truth. Adam was also created by the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

In these last days He has spoken to us through a SON, whom He appointed heir of all things and through whom he created the universe.
~Hebrews 1:2 (TLV)

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen did not come from anything visible.
~Hebrews 11:3 (TLV)

In the beginning was the word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the word became flesh and tabernacled among us.
~John 1:1, 14 (TLV)

May God Bless You!
Omni-truth Shall Prevail!
Amen!
