King Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. He spent his life in search of the "meaning of life" and discusses all the things he did to try and find satisfaction and meaning on this earth through many different pursuits. At the end of the book he finally concludes that the meaning of all life is to worship God and bring Him honor and glory. That life is not about us, but about our Creator. When we give God all the glory and recognize that ALL WE ARE AND ALL WE HAVE come from God, then we will begin a right relationship with Him and live to please Him instead of ourselves.
The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear Elohim and keep his commandments, for this is the whole of man... Ecc. 12:13 Most Bibles have the word "duty" in the passage, but that word, in Hebrew, does not appear in the text. The reason/meaning for man is to honor the Creator.
Jesus said: "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The Words I have spoken to you are Spirit and they are life" (John 6: 63). So, the meaning of life for us, is believing and following the Words of Jesus in the Gospel as Jesus also has spoken: " I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?".(John 11: 25-27).
The meaning in life is to fulfill the purpose for which you were created. In Rev 4:11 this is said specifically "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." So, strange as it may seem, we are created to give pleasure to the Lord through bringing him honour, glory, and power.
The reason for living is Jesus Christ. He is our only hope of redemption and salvation by His blood atonement for our sins. I fell in love with that same Jesus and he has never left me or forsaken me, even after I lost all for loving Him once in my life and backsliding for some years due to that loss. When I returned to Him as the prodigal son that I had become, he restored all that I had lost and I had lost everything for the kingdom once in my life. His grace is amazing. His love is amazing. Jesus is the only real thing in life because everything else fades away like cut grass and all that is left in the end is Jesus. He gives us life at the beginning, he takes our life at the end and then he restores our life eternal.
