What made the blessing go sour? (Psalm 44:9, 17)

9 But you have rejected us and disgraced us
and have not gone out with our armies.

17 All this has come upon us,
though we have not forgotten you,
and we have not been false to your covenant.

In my opinion, the blessing "went sour" because of God's deferred judgment against the prior evil reigns of Josiah's grandfather Manasseh and Josiah's father Amon, which God had delayed due to the generally good character of Josiah's reign. (However, as recounted in 2 Kings 23 and 2 Chronicles 35, Josiah had also committed an error of his own in going to war against King Necho of Egypt, despite the fact that Necho was not marching against Judah, but against another adversary, whom Necho said that God had told him to fight.) Josiah was subsequently killed in the battle between them.
