I think that there should be a distinction made between the singular and plural forms of the word (that is, between "age" and "ages"). When Jesus spoke of "the end of the age", I take Him to have been referring to a specific coming event, which I interpret as the time when Christ will return, preside over the final defeat or abolition of sin, death, and the devil, and establish God's kingdom on earth. By contrast, I view "ages" as referring to long, indefinite periods of time, during which God has performed (as in Ephesians 3:9, Romans 16:25, or Hebrews 9:26) or will perform (as in Ephesians 2:7) various actions.
