What is the connection between offering thanksgiving and avoiding sexual sin in Ephesians 5?
E.g. in Ephesians 5:3-4 God shows Christians how powerful gratitude can be as a weapon in the fight against pornography: But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving (emphasis added)

I believe it is a contrasting direction of behavior, rather than a correlation. Rather than participate in the things mentioned, we should utilize our "short" time more wisely, giving thanks for the forgiveness that we were gifted through Christ for those things we now fight to mortify in our flesh.
