Why is it important for both leaders and church members that leaders are servants, not owners of the church?

In verse 5, Paul describes leaders as servants rather than owners of the church. Why is that an important perspective for both leaders and church members? (1 Cor. 3:5)

1 Corinthians 3:1 - 23

ESV - 1 But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready.

The leaders and members have to be servants as Jesus was. He is our example (1Peter 2:21). He said that the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 9:45). Jesus "owns" the church in the sense that he is the head of the church. "He is the head of the body, the church" (Colossian 1:18).

Dear Anonymous, I believe that as leaders and members of the body of Christ, we are to acknowledge that we are servants, and that it is Christ who is the Head of the Ekklesia. (Greek, for called out ones)

We did not give our lives to redeem humanity, but Christ Jesus died and shed His blood to reconcile us back to God.

The body of Christ belongs to Him, and we have been called to serve one another.
