Isaiah 13 is prophetic to the yet future events of Revelation. God will punish the world for its evil, judge the wicked for their sins, stop the pride of arrogant men, and bring down the haughty and violent. Although Isaiah 13 had a historical application to Babylon, its “day of the LORD” language points forward to the final worldwide judgment described in Revelation, especially Revelation 6, 14, 16-19: Revelation 6 — the wrath of the Lamb begins to be openly revealed, with cosmic signs similar to Isaiah 13:10 and 13. Revelation 14 — the earth is reaped in judgment, and Babylon’s fall is announced. Revelation 16 — the bowls of God’s wrath are poured out upon the earth. Revelation 17–18 — mystery Babylon is judged and destroyed. Revelation 19 — Christ returns in judgment and smites the nations.
