Dear Anonymous, living in Christ means to live in union with him. You can read John chapter 15 for clarity.

We have received Jesus as our Lord, and because he is now our master, we are to follow him in humble submission and obey all that he commands.

We walk with him because of our union with him.

Wherever we see the words "in him", these words speak of our union with Christ.

We have become one with Jesus and God the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have been baptized into Christ by his death and resurrection. You can read Romans chapter 6 for clarity.

What does "living in Christ" (Colossians 2:6) involve? See Colossians 1:10-12.

Colossians 2:6 ESV: "As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, and established in your faith, even as ye were taught, abounding in thanksgiving."

Colossians 1:10-12 ESV: "To walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, unto all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks unto the Father, who made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light."

Living in Christ means aligning your thoughts, words, and actions with the teachings and example of Jesus. It involves a transformative journey of faith in which you die to self-centeredness, cultivate virtues such as love and compassion, and rely on His grace rather than your own strength.

Abiding in Him: Remaining connected to Christ (like a branch to a vine) through daily practices such as prayer, scripture reading, and seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance.

A Life of Service: Embodying a servant's heart and living "for others," mirroring the compassion and love Jesus showed to humanity.

Bearing Fruit: Cultivating the qualities of the Spirit—such as love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control—in all areas of your life, including your relationships and workplace.

Surrender and Obedience: Trusting God's loving purpose for your life even in difficult circumstances, and following His commands out of love.

Colossians 2:6-7 encourages believers to live out their faith exactly how they began it: by relying entirely on God's grace. The passage challenges us to stay firmly grounded in Christ, build our lives on His foundation, and let our daily lives continually "overflow" with thankfulness.

Paul reminds the church that just as they received Jesus as Lord by grace through faith, they must continue to walk in the same dependence. The Christian life is meant to be a steady, daily walk with Christ, rather than just an initial conversion experience.

We are called to sink our spiritual roots deep into Him and construct our lives on His truth. Being "established" means our faith should be strong and unshakeable, no matter what external challenges or doubts arise.

Paul writes: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God." (Col. 3:16) What does this mean? "The word of Christ," or the message from Christ, the whole deposit of Christian teaching, should become a part of us. (The Bible in Living English; Good News Bible; Weymouth, margin) It should be as if the entire body of teaching given by Christ has taken up residence within us. For that to be the case, we must be fully absorbed with the message of Christian truth, meditating upon it. When the "word of Christ" is actually a part of us in all its fullness and richness, it will serve as a guide, helping us make our way successfully. That word will then move us to act wisely.

What does "living in Christ" (Colossians 2:6) involve? See Colossians 1:10-12.

Colossians 2:6 "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,"

"Living in Christ" is also called "walking in Christ" as you can see from this other Bible translation of this verse.

Based on Colossians 2:6, “walking in Christ” means living out the reality that you have received Jesus Christ as Lord, and this walk is described in Colossians 1:10-12 as a lifestyle of bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with God’s power for endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father. The song “O To Be Like Jesus” (based on Colossians 2:6-7) reflects and applies these truths, showing that walking in Christ involves being firmly rooted in Him, strengthened in faith, growing in truth, overflowing with thanks, enduring to the end, never going astray, and continually following and obeying Jesus as a heartfelt aspiration rather than a mere duty.

Here are the lyrics:

Since we have received
Jesus Christ as Lord
We must walk in Him
We must be conformed
We are firmly rooted
Strengthened in our faith
Growing in the truth we
Overflow with thanks!

O to be like Jesus
To always walk in Him
O to be like Jesus
Enduring to the end

Since we have received
Jesus Christ as Lord
We will walk in Him
We will be conformed
We are firmly rooted
Strengthened in our faith
Growing in the truth we
Overflow with thanks!

O to be like Jesus
To always walk in Him
O to be like Jesus
Enduring to the end

O to be like Jesus
To never go astray
O to be like Jesus
To follow and obey

–"O To Be Like Jesus (2:6-7)" by Our Pilgrim Songs (from the album Colossians: Walk in Christ, based on Colossians 2:6-7).
