How can believers move to a present and future hope without being disqualified by false humility, angel worship, or visions?"
Colossians 2:16 - 23
AMP - 16 Therefore let no one sit in judgment on you in matters of food and drink, or with regard to a feast day or a New Moon or a Sabbath. 17 Such [things] are only the shadow of things that are to come, and they have only a symbolic value. But the reality (the substance, the solid fact of what is foreshadowed, the body of it) belongs to Christ.

What does it mean to be 'disqualified in Colossians 2:18? "Disqualified" in Colossians 2:18 means being robbed of your reward—losing out on what God intends for you—because someone has led you away from the sufficiency of Christ. Paul is warning the Colossians not to let false teachers act like referees who wrongly rule them "out of bounds" spiritually. Paul writes: "Let no one disqualify you…" (Col 2:18, ESV) The Greek verb is καταβραβεύω (katabrabeuō). It is rare, but in athletic contexts it means: to act as an umpire against someone to deprive someone of a prize to rule someone out unfairly So Paul's picture is of a corrupt referee who wrongly tells you you're out of the race. Paul is confronting a mix of teachings that claimed Christians needed extra spiritual practices to be truly "qualified": mystical visions strict asceticism secret spiritual knowledge legalistic rules about food, festivals, and rituals These teachers were essentially saying: "Christ isn't enough. You need our special spiritual techniques to be truly acceptable to God." Paul's response is sharp: Don't let them rule you out. They do not have the authority. Christ alone qualifies you. Paul is not saying: You lose salvation God disqualifies you You fail because of personal weakness. The threat comes from other people—those who try to impose spiritual requirements God never gave. What does "disqualification" mean? It means: being cheated out of your spiritual confidence and freedom being pressured into false humility or mystical experiences being diverted from Christ as the centre of your faith being told you are spiritually inferior or unworthy In other words, losing the joy and assurance that come from Christ alone. How does this fit Paul's larger argument? Colossians 2 is all about fullness in Christ: You are complete in Him (2:10). God has qualified you (1:12). Christ has cancelled the record against you (2:14). No one can judge you by human rules (2:16). So "disqualification" is the opposite of what God has already done. It is a human attempt to undo divine acceptance. Conclusion To be "disqualified" in Colossians 2:18 is to be cheated out of your spiritual confidence and freedom by people who claim you need more than Christ. Paul says, "Do not let anyone do that." Christ Himself has already qualified you."
