John, I think that because the name is shared by many unrelated organizations, you should check the specific return address, website, or doctrinal statements on the publications you receive to identify the exact group sending them.
If the organization you're hearing from is the World Mission Society Church of God, it is a group whose teachings and practices are widely considered to be unorthodox and, by many accounts, controlling and harmful. While it disputes this label, the substantial and detailed accusations from former members, combined with the views of experts, provide a strong basis for concern.
Given these serious red flags, your decision to be cautious and consider canceling further publications from them is a prudent one.
