Your question: What does "deliver us" in Psalm 79:9 reveal about God's character? When we speak of God’s character, the question should be asked, "How can we accurately describe God?" We cannot. We see his divine plan. We see he is forgiving, not for our sake but because of Christ’s sake. The verse you are referencing shows us that God forgives us for his name’s sake. Psalms 79:9: “Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.” Then we can read in Ephesians the following: Ephesians 4:32: “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." We are delivered through Christ.
