What are the basic differences between Christianity and the Amish or Mennonite religion?

My comments explain the differences between Christianity and the Amish - Mennonite religion, as asked by the question:

The Amish religion is a traditional Anabaptist Christian movement that emphasises humility, community, and separation from modern society. It began in 1693 when Jakob Ammann led a split from the Swiss Mennonites, forming what became the Amish.

The Amish religion is a deeply traditional Christian faith centred on humility, community, and separation from modern life. Their practices—plain dress, simple living, and home-based worship—express their commitment to Gelassenheit (submission to God's will) and to maintaining a close-knit, spiritually focused community.

The Mennonite religion is an Anabaptist Christian tradition rooted in the 16th‑century Reformation, centred on adult baptism, nonviolence, community, and following Jesus' teachings in daily life. It's named after Menno Simons, a Dutch priest who joined the movement in 1536 and helped organise and stabilise it.

Core Beliefs

Believers' baptism (adult baptism).

Pacifism and refusal to participate in military service; Mennonites are known as a historic peace church.

Community and mutual aid, often expressed through service and relief work.

Simplicity in lifestyle and modest dress, though practices vary widely by group.

New Testament–centred faith, especially the Sermon on the Mount.

Mennonites generally accept more modern technology, have diverse worship styles, and range from very traditional to fully modern congregations. Amish maintain stricter separation from society, avoid most technology, and follow tighter rules on dress and lifestyle. Mennonites often engage more with higher education, outreach, and broader community life.

What are the basic differences between Christianity and the Amish or Mennonite religion?

Christianity is the broad faith centred on Jesus Christ, practised worldwide in many forms. Amish and Mennonite traditions are part of Christianity, but they express it in very specific cultural and lifestyle ways. The differences come from how each group interprets discipleship, community, and separation from the world.

Christianity includes Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox believers, and many other branches. It spans billions of people with diverse beliefs and practices, but the central focus of any church claiming to be Christian needs to be centered on Jesus and His teachings.

Amish and Mennonites are Anabaptist Christians—a small, historic movement focused on adult baptism, peace, and simple living.

All three believe in Jesus, the Bible, salvation, and living a moral life.

The difference is emphasis:

Christianity focuses on faith in Christ and spiritual transformation.

Amish and Mennonites focus on living out that faith through community discipline, peace, humility, and simplicity.
