Why was Christ's "blood" necessary to justify us (Romans 5:9)?

Romans 5:9 ESV

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

Our God is full of love and mercy. Let's go back to Genesis chapter 3. Review the story of the fall of Adam and Eve.

I call this the solicitation of imputation. The curse came by unbelief! They (Adam and Eve) had one rule from God. Do not eat from that tree!

So, they ate! Then they thought that they could hide from God! They only solicited His righteous anger!

Hebrews 9:22 declares that without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sin!

Leviticus 17:11 says, for the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement (at one meant) for your souls.

Matthew 26:28: Jesus said, "I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it with you in my father's Kingdom."

Back to Genesis chapter 3. God looked, actually knew, exactly where Adam and Eve were, and He confronted them!

God knew what they were "trying" to hide by their fig leaves! There is no hiding from shame! God made them some holy clothes from animal skins! You might call them robes of righteousness.

What was that? It was a sacrifice of blood! A picture of the cross!

These clothes imputed God's righteousness to them. His mercy sparked faith in their souls. They were afraid because God had warned that disobedience would cause them to die! Genesis 2:17.

In Titus 1,2 according to the faith, the acknowledgement of the truth (we know) which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised. Titus 1:3: God, in due time, manifested His word through Jesus, on the cross, blood sacrifice for all who believe!

So, God always stands by His Word! His Book reveals everything!

He warned them! Today, the warning still stands. He is calling all to trust Him.

Isaiah 61:10: "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments. Of salvation, He has covered me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments."

The world is bleeding.

Consider the example of a king—a king who is perfectly just and loving. He possesses a great treasure, but someone begins stealing from it, bit by bit. Eventually, the thief is discovered and brought before the king; it turns out to be his own daughter. If he does not punish her, he is not being just; yet, if he does punish her, he is not being loving. So, he makes a decision: he chooses to take the punishment upon himself—and in doing so, he dies.

This is the very same story of our Savior, Yashua, who takes the consequences upon Himself.

The Bible says that we are "justified by faith" (Romans 5:1). Another source says that we are justified in His blood. His full quote is here: "It was fundamental in Paul's thinking that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures (1 Cor 15:3). In due season He died for the ungodly (Rom 5:6); while we were yet sinners He died for us (Rom 5:8); we are justified in His blood (Rom 5:9), and it is through Him that we are saved from the wrath (Rom 5:9)." --John Alfred Faulkner

This I found in the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (ISBE) under "Justification."

Why do we even need justification? Our sins. Our sins separate us from a holy God. Not the best. God doesn't like this separation. That's not how it was meant to be. "But your sinful acts have alienated you from your God; your sins have caused him to reject you and not listen to your prayers." That's the cold, hard fact.

What's the solution? We can't solve it. Only God can. And He did. But we must "repent or perish" (Jesus said.) And then we have to trust Jesus alone to save us. Repentance and faith. That's it. That's the whole ball of wax.

Our justification before a holy God comes “at the price of his [Son's] blood.” That's because He loved us so much, that God the Father was willing to sacrifice his only Son, and the Son of God was willing to be sacrificed in payment for our sins. Our sins are looked upon as debt.

See Matthew 6:12 — In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches, “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Here, “debts” refers to sins, framing them as obligations to God that require forgiveness. You can repent of your sins and be forgiven. "Repent or perish."
