"Marriage is the only time you should be in a romantic relationship."
In my opinion, this comment is an example of why many people close their minds to the gospel message and the truth about life.
Romance is pomp and pageantry, fantasy and colorful heroism prompted by exaggeration and emotionalism. There's nothing wrong with people, young or old, experiencing romance. The mere mention of romantic attraction generates ideas of sexual encounter and other nefarious activity. To automatically imagine there to be a reason to prohibit romantic attraction, is to distrust the disciplines taught by the church. What are we afraid of?
When young people are taught the values of education, self discipline, and hard work, with the knowledge of the presence of the Lord in their lives, the peace of God will guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We should be able to trust God in matters like this.
