The bible clearly states we as Christian are not to commit or practice any appearance of evildoing, so having a best friend of the opposite sex looks evil in the sight of others when we have marital partners, which are supposed to be our best friend and closest confidant. Generally opposite sex attraction sooner or later develops or can cause jealousy with our marital partner and others aware of the odd situation imaginations can and will spiral out of control. Let us use some old fashion common sense here. For example, most intelligent pastors will not have a counseled meeting with someone of the opposite sex alone. Usually the church secretary, elder or assistant pastor is in attendance so no false rumors or accusations can occur. Pastors sometimes have to correct, chastise or warn people that they counsel, so witnesses need to be present. That is necessary in this world full of people controlled or manipulated by a very present evil. Selah!
