All the other answer that I have read are true but God the Father will never reveal Himself personally until you except His son Jesus Christ as savior. Once that is accomplished he immediately makes instantaneous changes in your life style by His power. But the Lord always allows us to struggle with some changes that we know we must make by the urging by the Holy Spirit so that we can use the search for knowledge of Him in the scared scriptures called the word of truth. God's word is truth but you must choose to believe it. When you trust, learn of and lean on the Lord to do or help you to do the right things in life. He intervenes in your behalf. This is the truth that all true believers experience baby stepping one step at a time. Then eventually through faithfulness and patients enduring what we must endure to mature. We become a victorious Christian that nothing shakes us from our peace and assurity that we are in Him and walking with Him. We have the Father and the son with us through and by the power of His Holy Spirit.

I love this question. I believe that we know God by becoming aware of him through the senses, just like we know the physical universe through the physical senses. The spiritual senses are turned on once one repents, accepts Jesus, receives the Holy Spirit, and obeys God through the Holy Spirit.
