Although Mormons profess to be Christians and say they believe the Word of God, there are many of their beliefs that contradict Christianity. In fact, Mormonism can be referred to as a cult, which ...

I was a Mormon for 1 year when I wanted to play on my best friends' basketball team. To play on the Mormon church basketball team I had to attend their church twice a week. I did it, and also read the Book of Mormon. Mormons came over and presented to my mom and me their slide presentation of Mormonism on our living room wall. I fell for this garbage for 1 year until I was saved at a Billy Graham Crusade and discipled in Young Life club. Here are several fallacies:

1. The LDS Church, Mormonism is a polytheistic religion.

While a Mormon will affirm there is, indeed, “One God”, they do not mean it as you do – they mean there is one God of planet earth. Elsewhere? There are gods all over the place! All someday to be worthy of worship and adoration.

2. Jesus has a brother, He’s not God, and God has a wife.

Remember God the Father? The random guy who was born on a planet somewhere in space, the final frontier, who earned his way to the Celestial Kingdom and attained godhood status? He’s married. Your God isn’t. But theirs is.

“Heavenly Father,” as He is referred to in the LDS Church has a counterpart, “Heavenly Mother.” To Mormons, Jesus is one of many sons of God and is just a man, not God Himself. No Godhead/Trinity/Three-in-One. Forget the 300 fulfilled prophecies of Jesus Christ in the Bible.
The Mormons have stripped Him of His deity.

3. We’ll talk about grace when you get to heaven – if you get there.

You know that salvation is a gift of God and that it cannot be earned. The Bible, via Ephesians 2:8-9 is exceedingly clear on this one… right? Your Bible says that. Mormons don’t.

I don’t mean the Book of Mormon. Their King James Version Bible, as translated by Joseph Smith, doesn’t say that at all. But it’s the only version they accept. According to 2 Nephi 25:23, “…believe in Christ, and be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.” Did you catch that? “After all we can do…”

In brief, Mormons are not assured of salvation through the cross (which they do not recognize as a necessary work) and do not believe it is free. They will say they believe salvation is through grace, but what they mean is this: You will find out if you have earned that gracious salvation after you die and face judgment. This will be based on an assessment of your works and if your works are deemed to be worthy enough, you then receive grace to be granted salvation.

Salvation, for Mormons, is not free. It is earned. Same words, very different meaning.

"One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propounded by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God; that belief in Jesus Christ alone is all that is needed for salvation," (Miracle of Forgiveness, by Spencer W. Kimball, former President of the LDS Church, p. 206). HEINOUS!

4. The Word of the Prophet trumps the Word of God.

Joseph Smith was the original prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Many think he was crazy, but he was more… crazy like a fox. Intelligent. Thoughtful. Well-read. Grasping for greatness.
“There is no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet of God.” (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p. 188).

Smith set himself up as a prophet and had many “prophecies” that captured the hearts and minds of his followers. The first thing Joseph Smith did was to call into question the inerrancy of the Bible, pointing to various translation “errors” and “conflicts.” From there, he set himself up as the exclusive source of all truth via a prophetic anointing.

All Mormons, prophets of the LDS Church, to this day, are believed to carry that same “anointing.” What they say is what God is saying, regardless of any Scriptural conflicts.

Lets keep it simple - There is only ONE God (in three) and the Mormons believe that Jesus is God and use to prove it by Joseph Smith's Jr. 1st vision. Joseph Smith Jr. says he went into a field and prayed, or asked God, which church to join and was then, stated by Jr, to have two personages come to him and provide the answer (one being God the Father and the other being Jesus the son of god?) and was told correctly join none! The rest matters not :-) No man can see god and live as the bible says. Although Jesus told Philip that he had seen God however that God was in Jesus and thus Philip had seen God. The big thing and simple at the same time is that the Mormons however good, nice and peaceful they might be are worshipping another gospel which isn't (see Paul's letters) and thus not only are they and many others not Christians, they are not saved either. As Paul said, Have I become your enemy because I tell you the truth?

No, not at all. Mormons have nothing to do with Christianity. They are one of the cults who call themselves Christians, but do not believe in the very basic biblical truths. A Christian is someone who is led by the Holy Spirit and so he/she cannot deny the fundamental Christian beliefs. Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and many other cults are growing rapidly. Let us pray that God would stop them.

Revelation 7:9 says: “After I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands and crying out in a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.’”

I believe that this includes from every religion. God alone knows the heart. It is not what religion or church you belong to that matters. It is Faith in Jesus and God the father. As far as Mormons are concerned, I am sure that there are those who attend Mormon churches who believe Jesus is their way to the Father and have not even read the bylaws of the church just as there are Baptist, Church of Christ, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, etc. Who don’t read their bylaws. What is in your heart is what matters. So to answer the question, not all Professed Mormons will be saved, but I believe some will. The same applies to every denomination.

As a cult, Mormonism has probably achieved the highest membership in history at over 15 million worldwide. In the USA the membership is over 6 million, exceeded only by the Catholics, Baptists, Methodists and the COGIC according to the World Almanac for 2017.

Cults can be attractive because they may emphasize unique beliefs that appeal to certain kinds of people. The cult may say it has the only correct version of the bible, or only they will be saved out of everyone else, or, in the case of Mormons, they have certain knowledge no one else possesses, for example.

Historically speaking, the only good that the many heretical sects and cults could have done would be to inadvertently prepare people for the true gospel, when otherwise they could have remained in ignorance and unconverted for centuries.

As I remember, at the beginning much was prophesied to be said against the Mormons, and justifiably so from the biblical viewpoint. Mormons are not exactly traditional Christians since they originate from the book of Mormon and Smith's other writings first, not from the bible first.

Besides agreeing with the scriptures, there is the fruitfulness test. False prophets can be detected by their fruits (Matt 7:16-20). Beside the visible, physical fruits there are also the fruits of the spirit (Gal 5:22-23). How do these fruits manifest within the lives of Mormons? Not being a Mormon, I can't testify for them.

Can a Mormon be saved despite the false or non-biblical beliefs they hold? Perhaps yes, if the salvation process isn't contradicted. Can one false belief send a person to hell? Perhaps yes, if that belief contradicts the true nature of salvation. Salvation is for free; it can't be earned by good works. The saved person must correctly understand what sin is, realize that they have sinned, be remorseful over their sin, appeal to the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ in forgiving their sin, and endure to the end in order to be saved.

So, the question whether Mormons are saved or not must be taken on an individual person-by person basis, not as a group. False or defective doctrines and beliefs will be eradicated at the second coming of Christ, even more so than at his first coming (John 4:25).

In my opinion, mankind is saved by grace alone. Ephesians 2:8 Nothing else is required for salvation, nothing. No amount of works will get you there. One cannot be saved any other way.

Catholics, Baptists, Mormons, Methodists, Presbyterians and everyone else who believes that Jesus died for our salvation are saved. No other requirement exists. Extra publications, dogmas, Watchtowers, etc., have no bearing on this fact.

There are many Christians who do not believe in the Trinity. They believe that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh and believe that He died for their salvation. Are they not Christians? They truly believe that Jesus died for their sins. They believe God's free grace is given to them through this sacrifice. They believe that God and the Holy Spirit are separate from God the Son. Heathens?

I am not a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints. I know many Mormons and every single one believes that Jesus died for the sins of the world and can only attain salvation by a belief in Him and not Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was a prophet, not God. Their church tells them different ways to worship but so do other denominations. Are all denominations in the same category as the Mormon Church? Are Catholics not saved because they believe in transubstantiation or ask Mary, the mother of Jesus, to pray for them? Are Episcopalians doomed to hell because their clergy marry homosexuals? Are Methodists, Presbyterians and the Assembly of God church bound to perdition because they ordain women?

I can find no other requirement for salvation other than what I have stated previously; and there are many, many references to this fact. There is only one way to salvation. Jesus Christ is the only way. We are assured of salvation if we believe this. Yes, there are very strange and odd ways of getting to this point in one's journey, but I will not condemn anyone's methods for attaining salvation through Jesus Christ. John 14:6
