This question has been argued by many learned scholars. Some quote the restoration of King David after committing adultery and murder, claiming there is room for restoration.

For the present day church, it would be very good for anyone who is caught in a scandal, irrespective of whatever the scandal is, to step down from his portfolio. It is very true the pastor or leader concerned would be totally restored when he repents and makes his peace with God, but this does not mean he must be restored to his position as a pastor or leader.

It would be good for the pastor to humble himself and sit as a restored member in the congregation willing to help when needed by the church. This act would place a fear in the body of Christ and send a very strong warning that this type of behavior is totally unacceptable in Gods house.

The sad thing is, what we find today is that when this act is done, many pastors then want to leave the church and start their own church. This does not help the church at large; it brings shame and disrepute.
