I think Juanita is correct when she said that the tablets (the law) was given through Moses. But there's a bit more on this. The Old Testament is filled with types and shadows of the New Testament. One of these is Moses whom God used to save His people. Moses is, in that sense, a shadow of the Christ which was to come into the world. Another correlarry is found in the tablets. Whereas in the Old Testament the law was written on tablets of stone, in the New Testament, the law was written on our hearts. God replaced our stoney hearts with one of flesh to symbolize the new birth in Christ for those who accept Him as savior. Hence, God used Jesus, fully-God and yet fully-man to save us once and for all. Praise God!
I believe that the Law that was given through Moses was the 10 Commandments. They were written in stone by the finger of God because they were God's character and are eternal. There is a modern phrase "written in stone" which also is used to imply that something is permanent. The Law was not done away with at the Cross, for those who believe in Jesus the Christ the eternal consequences were. It is not enough just to know the law, we must take it to heart and show it to the world through our thoughts and actions.
