The entire Book of Matthew, a precious introduction to our Savior and His ministry, was written to the Nation of Hebrews (Jews). The 12 Apostles and the 70 or so disciples who went about proclaiming the Good News of the arrival of Jesus, the promised Jewish Messiah, were given certain instructions and missions by Jesus Himself. In Matthew 10:23 He gives them a specific mission and then a promise: Before they complete their assignment, Jesus will return. Did He return as Jesus? No. He sent the Holy Spirit to bless all those gathered at the Feast of Pentecost in Jerusalem, Acts 2. Every Jew and Proselyte gathered there, along with 18 people-groups who spoke languages other than Hebrew, received the Holy Spirit. From that day forward everyone who confessed Jesus as the promised Messiah for the Jews received the Holy Spirit and the promise of eternal life in the Kingdom of God on earth. When later Jesus revealed salvation by grace through faith for acknowledging Jesus as Savior through the Apostle Paul, Acts 9, both Jews and Gentiles were saved, no longer by acknowledging Jesus as Messiah under the Hebrew Bible, but by receiving Him as Savior by grace through faith, their eternal Home in Heaven, not on earth. Thus salvation minus the works of the Law came to all of us who will surrender to Him.
