When Jerusalem fell before the Romans, the Jewish people revolted against the emperor many times and failed. They were finally either killed, sold into slavery or fled from persecution. Hence the spread of Jews all over the world. According to some sources, Jews may have accounted up to 10% of the Europe population at one point in time. They probably inter-mingled with Gentiles and carried a more Euro-centric appearance in time. I would not go so far as to say Jews are mostly Europeans. Here's a census from JewishVirtualLibrary.org but its possible one can infer there is more European influence.
After the Roman Empire destroyed Jerusalem in the 70 AD, they scattered Jews to the area WEST - which is exactly the direction that the Church has moved for over 2,000 years since it came into existence. Now you can know that for over 1800 years the Jews have lived in Europe, but never changed their doctrine and lifestyle. That is why Hitler killed close to 10 million during his reign. Now they have returned to their land as NEW Jews, that may have changed the physical characteristic of those called Jews BUT NOT THEIR LIFESTYLE IN GOD. Also note that being Jewish is not a 'race' but a Principle of God based on Abraham and his call for Jews and faith in God.
