God is not opposed to competition especially since competition [done righteously] promotes excellence and improves the overall results from work and study.....God is a god of excellence and He instructs us to do all things for His glory, that is in part, to do all things well.....competition helps us promote effort towards that end competition also promotes innovation since improving our results can often be achieved by trying a new and undiscovered methodology....again, this "progress" can and should bring glory to God
Competition promotes self. It is rivalry it creates enemity and does not enhance meekness. Jesus said we should learn of Him and be meek, we are also told to prefer one another and count others better than ourselves Philp 2:3. A disciple who is following Jesus is dead to self and does not follow the way of the world. There is nowhere we are commanded or encouraged to compete. It is even unwise according to 2Cor 10:12. If we use the Bible as guide then we cannot approve what the world approve simply because we feel it has some good, rather we would be concerned if our Lord is pleased with whatsoever we do Col 3:23. May the Holy Spirit grant us all understanding
